It's on the sticker inside your driver-side door jamb — open the door and look at the frame. Use that number, not the maximum PSI printed on the tire sidewall. Front and rear are often different, and the sticker assumes cold tires.
California law requires gas stations to provide free air and water to fuel customers — just ask the attendant to switch the pump on. Buying nothing? Many pumps take cards ($1.50–$2 is typical), and some stations keep air free for everyone.
